About Me  
Sherry Helgoe MA, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, has provided therapy for women and couples at her private practice, one-day seminars, and education/support groups. She has a private practice location in Yorba Linda, California where she specializes in working with women issues and couples.

In addition to a successful private practice, Sherry is a Professor at Pepperdine University and teaches in the Graduate Clinical Psychology Program. She is a Therapist Consultant for licensed therapists seeking peer review and is a Board Certified Clinical Supervisor mentoring interns weekly as they work towards licensure. 

Sherry's professional background includes many years of vast clinical experience.
 
·         She worked as a Health Educator for a major Southern California HMO where she developed curriculum and taught education/support groups on depression, stress management/mindfulness, parenting and implemented a 16-week emotional overeating weight management program. 
·         As an Adjunct Professor at Santiago Canyon Community College, she taught Introduction of Psychology and Developmental Psychology classes.
·         As a Social Worker for an in-patient psychiatric hospital and a therapist for a non-profit center treating women, teenagers, and their families; a high school counselor working with teenagers.

he volunteers weekly for Operation Comfort, a Military Therapy Referral Network for families of active service personnel.

Specialized Training:
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction in Mind-Body Medicine: A 7-Day Residential Training Program
This training provided an opportunity to directly experience mindfulness and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) with Drs. Jon Kabat-Zinn and Saki Santorelli, to learn to practice mindfulness meditation as it is taught in the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts, Michigan. Learning objectives included:
  • Integrating mindful approaches to the experience and expression of stress, pain, grief, and anxiety within ourselves and when working with others.
  • Understanding instructing and guiding others in the formal and informal methods of mindfulness meditation in various settings.
Sherry successfully completed this residential training in February 2001.
